It's middle July and I-CAST/IFTD mega show is just a week away. This is where all the dealers go to check out all that is new and improved for the upcoming 2015 season. We'll cast rods and handle reels and catch up on all the latest gear designed to catch more fish (or more fisherman).
A product that I have watched steadily improve over the last few years is fly lines. I just received product information sheets of the new additions to the Rio InTouch series of lines and I think we all have something to cheer about.
The Intouch technology was first released two years ago with the InTouch sinking lines. With the use of ConnectCore (non-stretch core technology) a new level of sensitivity was found. Last year we saw a several more additions to this new family of non-stretch lines including the Perception (a personal favorite), InTouch subsurface lines, Skagit and Scandi spey heads as well as ConnectCore shooting lines.
The exciting news today is now we get InTouch in our favorites lines. The Rio Grand, Rio Gold and Rio Trout LT. Also coming new is the Xtreme Indicator line focused toward the boat angler who can't seem to put enough split shot on his leader.
I can already hear the whispers of those who wish not to change. No fear guys these long time favorites (Grand, Gold, Trout LT) in the current stretchy core configurations still remain available for at least the next season.
It's all about the connection!
What I find remarkable about the ConnectCore lines is not only just how connected you are with you fly but also how connected you feel to your fly rod. The first characteristic I noticed when yard casting these lines is how much better I felt my rod load and respond to my cast. It was like I was just introduced to my fly rod, a rod that I have known for years.
Enough ramble on from me.
Take a look at what our friends at Rio Fly Lines have to say about these new lines.
InTouch Rio Grand
The Grand is a full line size heavier than the industry standard, and features more weight distributed towards the front of the line to easily load faster action fly rods. The ultra-low stretch ConnectCore provides groundbreaking levels of sensitivity for intuitively better cast timing, easier line lift and sharp, precise mends. Lack of stretch also means enhanced detection of subtle takes and faster reaction time when setting the hook. The RIO Grand is the best choice of line for the modern, fast action fly rod.Comes in sizes WF4F to WF8F

InTouch Rio Gold
The RIO Gold has a taper design that gives incredible loop stability at distance and a front taper that delivers perfect presentation of flies between sizes #2 and #22. The ultra-low stretch ConnectCore provides groundbreaking levels of sensitivity for intuitively better cast timing, easier line lift and sharp, precise mends. Lack of stretch also means enhanced detection of subtle takes and faster reaction time when setting the hook. The line is designed 1.5 to 2 line sizes heavy, with a powerful, stout body and a long back taper to turnover the heaviest and clunkiest of nymph rigs. The ultra-low stretch ConnectCore provides groundbreaking levels of sensitivity for intuitively better cast timing, easier line lift and sharp, precise mends. In addition, the long back taper and handling section on the line make for easy mending and allow for longer casts when needed. The line features DualTone as well as a Hi-Vis MaxFloat Tip.
