Got a chance the other day to slip my stockingfoots into a new pair of
Korkers Terror Ridge Wading Boots. While a new pair of boots is not quite as exciting as a new fly rod, wading boot traction, comfort, and stability play a very important role in a successful day of fly fishing. Slip around all day in poor traction and poor comfort and I guarantee you your fishing will suffer.
On the particular stream I tested these new boots I chose to go with a fresh pair of
studded felt soles. The stream has very slimy rocks and this combination of felt and studs works well.
An awesome feature of korkers is you have the option to change out soles. I understand felt is not always an option due to restrictions and/or invasive species. Korkers has sole options for just about anything you can encounter. As for responsibility I choose to only use a pair of felt soles in one particular river system therefore transferring invasive's to another system is not possible through my use of felt soles.
I wore the new Terror Ridge Boots for two days straight with a combination of float tubing and wading. The first thing I noticed or should I say didn't notice is the fact that I had on a new pair of boots. Korkers have a great knack of feeling comfortable without any "break in" period necessary. Comfortable right out of the box.
One particular feature with all Korkers boots is they drain out the bottom. As soon as you step out of the river onto a trail the water in the boots instantly drains out and you never feel like you are sloshing along.
Stability in the Korkers Terror Ridge boots is amazingly good. With Korkers Heel Lock Closure System your entire foot feels anchored providing solid feel with river bottom as well as on the trail. They give you a feeling of security for your ankles and feet.
I am well pleases with these new boots and look forward to getting much more use out of them. They remind me of my
Korkers Darkhorse I reviewed
(Read Darkhorse Review) three years ago and they are still going strong. The major difference in the two models is Terror Ridge is a lace up boot while Darkhorse is a BOA lace boot.
