Columbia Gorge Fishing Report - October

October Fishing Report

October has been good to us so far. Trout fishing on the Deschutes has been somewhere between good and excellent, with steady weather and mostly stable flows helping keep things productive. Nymphs, streamers, and dry/dropper rigs are all in play, and the streamer bite has been especially fun.

With the Deschutes steelhead fishery closed, there has also been plenty of Trout Spey talk around the shop. Swinging small streamers for larger Redsides is a great way to keep the two-hand game alive, and the grabs can be surprisingly aggressive.

Mount Hood Lakes

Local Mount Hood lakes have also been fishing well, though the season is starting to shift. Cooler nights are slowing some of the hatch activity, but small terrestrials, attractor dries, and leech patterns can still produce on the right afternoons.

Many local lakes close at the end of October, so this is a good time to get a few more stillwater days in before colder weather settles in. As always, check current fishing regulations before heading out.

We’ve moved the full fishing report over to our main website.
