Its Holiday time and people indulge on those things that they love. Candy, special treats or for me it’s my grandmothers Cranberry Tea. This was a favorite growing up and has become a Holiday staple in our home and at our Gorge Fly Shop Employee parties. So this year I made a couple of batches to share with our customers on our Customer Appreciate Day – Holiday Edition!!
Many people asked that I share the recipe; this was passed down to me from my dad’s mom. She was born in Canada and was shorter than me. She always ensured that our Holiday’s growing up were filled with all kinds of special treats. I received this recipe as a young adult and really enjoying sharing it with our family and friends. While I have misplaced the actual recipe card I do have it in my head. I’m happy to pass it along to you and hope that you enjoy it as much as we do!
Cranberry Tea
- 2 – 3 Bags of Cranberries
- 2 -4 Cinnamon Sticks
- 1 TBS. Whole Cloves
- Orange Juice (pulp free)
- 1- 3 Oranges
- 1 – 3 Cups of Sugar
- Water
- Optional: Fireball Whiskey
Fill half of a large stock pot with water; add cranberries, cinnamon and cloves. I generally slice the oranges and add these in at this time….it’s so pretty!! Bring to boil….you will begin to hear the cranberries start to pop. Continue with a rolling boil until most cranberries have popped. After this I pour it through a strainer. From the strainer I pull the cinnamon sticks, and oranges out and put them back in the tea. Put the tea back in the pot and return it to the stove. I generally add about 4 -6 cups of pulp free orange juice, and 1 – 3 cups of sugar….based on how sweet you like it and how much water you started with.
After this, it’s ready to drink. It’s good hot, cold or my favorite….hot with a shot of Fireball Whiskey.
Thank you,
Lyndsey Duddles
