Friday's Featured Fly

Just in time to kick off Stillwater season!  Our friends at Solitude nailed this Balance Leech.  Hot Tungsten bead, sparse body and tail with just a hint of red flash.  This one is going to make a lot of indicators go down!

The fine folks at Aqua Flies know how to create an Intruder fly. Wow, these are beautiful! They arrived just in time for the tail end of winter Steelhead season, Jerry's Intruders.

Solitude Chironomid Cripple   Some of the first chironomid of the year can be on the larger side.  That works well as you can fish a dry fly that you can actually see!  This killer pattern has several attention-grabbing details.  Parachute hackle to ride flush in the film.  Wirey tail to imitate a shuck and some extra fluff to make the fly look "buzzy" like adult chironomids on the water.  Do not hit the lake without this one!

Spring bass fishing is right around the corner!  Solitude's Jaw Breaker is a great bet.  It's got all the goods....rubber legs, marabou, stout jig hook, and a twister tail!  Slow-strip this one or suspend it under an indicator.  Bass fishing is a lot of fun, gear up now.  We offer a wide selection of Bass Gear from top manufacturers, at every price point.

Sometimes it's hard to argue with the classics.  RIO's version of the original Bonefish Puff, the Bonefish Mini Puff retains all the qualities of the old original.  Bead chain eyes to sink the fly, but they're wrapped in chenille for a gentle landing.  This was a good one decades ago and remains productive on bonefish flats across the globe today.

Solitude Egg Sucking Stone  - Swinging for winter steel can be tough, to say the least. An egg-sucking stone and an indicator can be a fantastic plan b, c, or even d...

New Fly Alet - Aqua Flies Stu's Ostrich Intruder and Stu's Ostrich Mini Intruder "Metal Detector"
This fly is a great choice for pursuing winter chrome in big dark waters

A very Special Valentine's Day Friday's Featured Fly brought to you by RIO's Morrish Trailer Trash. This nearly 5-inch is intended for King's but a great COHO or Steelhead Fly.  Made with Maribou this fly has a big presence but is very light and easy to cast.

Who doesn't love a tasty Fish Taco?  Perfect for low clear water.  Winter time can be great fishing, as long as you are prepared.  WadersWading Boots, and good Outerwear are key components to a successful day winter fishing.  We have you covered!  Call us today, let our friendly staff make sure you are ready to tackle the elements.

Aqua Flies - Brett's Klamath Intruder is a fantastic Steelhead fly when conditions get low and clear. Also a great come back fly when you get some action on your tried and true black and blue intruder

Weighted Hoh Bo Spey
New from Solitude. This weighted classic will get down in a hurry. A great option green to clear deep water. Comes in Black/Blue, Black Green Butt, and Orange/Pink.

This is the Hoh Bo Spey in wine from Solitude Fly CompanyIf I had to fish one fly for Winter and Summer steelhead, this fly would be the champion. This fly comes in 7 color options; and the new weighted option we just highlighted.

Aqua Flies Jerry's Dirty Hoh  -  Is your winter river on the dirtier side of green? Here is a great fly to get the job done. Do you need to get your fly down,  RIO MOW Tips are easy to use, and cast, and you will get your steelhead fly right where you want it.  We stock everything you need for Steelhead Spey Setup

The Micro Crab…..a sleeper Bonefish Fly and a stealthy option for Permit in skinny water. Sometimes standard crab patterns are just too much.  Too big.  Too heavy. Too splashy.  Not this little guy!  Tied on a size 8 hook with small bead chain eyes, this is one of the sneakiest crabs on the market.

Our friends at RIO Products have a great line of Flats Flies these days.  This is the Bone Doctor.  Available in peach and tan, this pattern is a great choice for bigger bonefish, permit and selective triggers.

Bull Reds beware!  RIO's  Boyles Swamp Fox is in town to hoover up the Bayou!  Like many great Redfish Patterns, the Swamp Fox doesn’t necessarily imitate anything in particular, but the Arctic Fox and rabbit make it appear alive.  Seen here in Rusty Olive, this thing looks like it could be crawling around anywhere in the marsh!

The Megalopsicle is right at home on a beach in Mexico.  This is one of our favorite patterns for juvenile and adult tarpon and the dirty olive color scheme is a sleeper!

The Dread Pirate is a Tarpon fly with a lot of thought behind it.  The deer hair head combined with a little foam allows the fly to suspend when you pause your retrieve.  The addition of ostrich herl and craft fur make it really come to life.  Seen here in the ever-popular black and purple edition.

The Kung Fu Crab going for a swim!  This proven Permit pattern has also fooled its share of Trigger Fish.  Saltwater fly lines, and saltwater fly rods are popular lately as people gear up for warm water destinations.

Where are you headed?

It’s fun to see how small of a fly a steelhead will eat. Many would be rather surprised! RIO’s Last Call was meant to be a comeback fly, but it works just fine as a searching pattern. Tied on a stinger hook that sticks plucky grabbers. Available in Purple and Black.

This steelhead fly has had quite a few birthdays and will always be a great producer. Tied on a heavy hook with a wire body, the Copper Top gets down just a little deeper than other dry line flies.  This can make a big difference when the water starts to get cold.

Another, variation of one of our favorite stillwater flies.  The Hale Bopp Leech in wine.  This can be an overlooked color on many lakes.

Sometimes a little blood in the water is just the ticket!

There is still time to visit Justesen Ranch Lakes, fall fishing is really good right now but spaces are limited.  Or make your reservations for Spring 25', it will be here soon.  Contact us today for details and reservations.

Just in time for Halloween 🎃 Aqua Flies Stu's Barred Ostrich Intruder in black/orange.  Great color combo for late fall steelhead!

Check out our Gorge Fly Shop Spey Line Kits - we put these line kits together, making it easier for you to get the right setup for your trout spey or spey rod.

Fall means streamer time for trout!  RIO's Brammer Seasoned Geezer holds a solid profile and pushes plenty of water on the strip.  Sure to cause some aggressive takes!  As we enter the winter season here, now is the time to plan for your next adventure.  Visit our travel page, let Fly Water travel bring your angling dream destinations a reality.

RIO's Silver Hilton - Pink Butt  -  This steelhead fly has a lot of good going on! Black, blue, pink, flashy and webby.  Killer!

From the West Coast to the Great Lakes, the Aqua Scandi is fantastic sink tip fly.  It has ample flash and just enough material to hold a strong profile.  Also an easy caster.

Aqua Flies - Stu's ostrich mini intruder - Pink and orange sure pops!  Great sunny day color combo for winter and summer steelhead.  Steelhead fishing is good right now and only going to get better this year.  Make sure your fly box is stocked and ready to go!

Halloween is right around the corner.  Time to break out the black and orange!  Aqua Flies Stu's Mini Ostrich Intruder is a great sink tip fly. Especially in clear water.
This miniature version is tied on a size 2 Aqua talon hook, 27mm Aqua flies shank
and a 5/32 brass dumbell eye.

It’s prime terrestrial time and it sure is hard to beat a good hopper bite!  This is truly one of the best patterns of all time, RIO's Morrish Hopper.  Holds up a dropper well, but still rides flush in the film.  Don’t leave home without it!

It can be pretty hard to beat a Purple Green Butt Skunk. This is Travis Duddles pattern and a must have for your steelhead flies collection. This fly is slim, flashy, and just the right amount of Chartreuse.
Steelhead season is upon us and fishing is really good, pack your fly boxes and get ready.

We have all of the neccessities and non neccessities but just fun to have like a new new spey rodnew reel to go with the new rodwaders

Smaller sink tip flies definitely have their place in a dialed steelhead arsenal. Especially when the water is running clear.  RIO’s Bantam fits that bill perfectly.  It has enough material to maintain a visible profile at depth, but it’s not so big that it spooks fish.  Added bonus...it’s super easy to cast!

With the current number of summer steelhead in the Columbia, this is going to be a great season to commit some time to skaters! Aqua Flies Brett's Obie Skater is a great one to try. Small, buggy and tied on an extra sticky stinger hook. Perfect for water on the clear side.

Fly tier Brett Jensen considers the Klamath his home river, and it is the Klamath that has been the inspiration for many of his summer and fall steelhead patterns. He ties his patterns with attention to materials that not only give his flies a look, but lets them perform as designed when fished.

The Para Wulff combines the characteristics of a low-riding dry fly parachute pattern with the high visibility of split calf tail wings.  If you’re looking for a great mayfly imitation that’s easy to see, look no further.  Available in several colors and sizes.

Don't Forget your fly box
