There are a lot of fast action rods around today. Most don't load very well short therefore making them hard to fish short and they don't make good tools to become better casters. Years ago you just jump up a line size to slow down these fast action rods.
A better solution today is to utilize a line that by design is bumped up in weight and also tapered to load quick. Airflo Super-Dri Xceed is created to do exactly that. The generously weighted head has a shortened, more aggressive taper than your average trout line.
