Scientific Anglers Amplitude Anadro - New for 2018

I've had some time behind this new Scientific Anglers Amplitude Anadro Line and I've got to tell you, Impressive! Don't think Sharkskin, don't think Sharkwave, and put aside what you thought you knew about textured lines. The cool part of trial and error is what one learns from it. Texturing has a place in fly lines whether you agree or not agree and the funny part is many lines from many manufacturers today are using some sort of process to remove the smooth and create a higher floating line with less casting and water resistance.
Fact is, however it is accomplished, adding a texture to a fly line allows it to float better and shoot farther.
Scientific Anglers probably knows more about this than anyone through their many years of product development. While many would argue that they should have written it off, a few of us knew there was some real benefits. S/A has figured out how to extract all of these benefits and apply them to lines in a way that really excels for us.
Looking at the profile of Anadro from right to left first you see Floating Texture on the tip section. This helps prevent the tip of this line from sinking. It's probably the most aggressive texture part of this line but you won't notice it because this part is never in your hands and always outside your rod guides. In addition to Floating Texture is Dry Tip Technology which is the addition of micro-balloons in the line for even more flotation.
Next you see Shooting Texture. This type of texture is more subtle feeling and easy on hands and rod guides. It floats well, lifts off water easily for mending and shoots excellent for distance. Notice between the rear taper and the running line there is a sections referred to as Tactile Reference Point (TRP). This is a non embossed section design to help you recognize by feel to the location of the back of the head.
Wrap this all up with AST+ Plus, (Advanced Shooting Technology), A new formulation of patented dry-slick technology providing continual line slickness over the lifetime of the line. Scientific Anglers claim up to 50% slicker and than other fly lines on the market lines with AST Plus cast farther, float higher, and are more durable than any other lines ever built.

About the Taper..
Anadro is a long headed line with a long rear taper. It has a heavy front head that can turn over weighted flies and/or indicator rigs. It excels at long casting and roll casting. Due to its long rear taper it also mends easily which is also aided by high floating and less resistance to the water. Formulated for cold and cool water and primarily targeted for trout, steelhead and salmon but I must say that I have used it in warmer climates with no issues. Next summer I'll test to warm water extremes. One thing I've noticed with textured lines over several years of testing is that they don't seem to effected by temperature. I don't have an answer to why that is but I've never had one get sticky from the heat.
I have to say this is one of my new favorite lines. It's a pleasure to cast and fits great on a variety of fast action rods. Greg
