G.Loomis IMX-PROc Creek Fly Rods for Trout

One would think Fly fishing creeks for trout would easy. It's actually quite challenging. Stealth is the upmost importance but when you have successfully acquired position, next your skills must come to play. The first time I fished creek water I was surprise by both how inadequate my skills were for the situation but also how poorly my rod performed in the same situation. Successful creek fly fishing takes much more than just any short fly rod

A creek fly rod needs to be a moderate action. One needs to be able to slow down their stroke and allow time to create successful presentations. With that moderate action the rod tip also needs to behave to help with consistent, accurate casting loops.

A creek fly rod also needs to load with limited amount of line out. A proper cast starts with good feel even at short distances.

And with those characteristics the rod also needs to track true to set up accurate cast. Modern graphite with advanced taper designs coupled with precision wrapping techniques produces rods that track true.

All of these attributes had to be collectively taken into consideration to produce a truly fine and modern creek rod.

IMX-PROc Creek

G. Loomis IMXc Creek Fly Rods have all the right characteristics to meet the goals of challenging creek angling. In addition I have found an exceptional fly line for this type of trout fishing. The RIO Premier Creek Fly Line. This fly line loads the rod with very little line off the tip of your rod enabling the caster to set up for short, precise cast. It's a joy to fish with. Find them in our Fly Shop.

    G. Loomis IMX Pro Series (5100-4)

Cody discussing the G.Loomis IMX PRO 5100-4

Hi everyone, I'm Cody from the Gorge Fly Shop and I'm going to talk to you about the 10' 5wt. IMX PRO Singlehand rod from G.Loomis

The IMX PRO Series is comprised of 15 different rod models tailored to fit many specific demands in modern fishing. The fast action singlehand rods are a game changing edition to  the serious anglers quiver. No longer are we forced to adapt the old traditional 9' ft fly rod to personalize fishing styles, as the IMX PRO Series offers select models designed for explicit applications.

Several studies have shown that 80-95% of the trouts diet is subsurface. The flies use for nymphing if adopted correctly can help consistently catch more fish on highly pressured waters. Techniques such as checknypmhing for fast turbulent water like the Deschutes or simply high sticking techniques used to keep line off the water and decrease drag are much more effective with a longer more sensitive fly rod.

The IMX PRO 5100-4 answers these demands. What I like about this rod is that the one foot of extra length on there offers superb line mending control and also offers light tippet protection.

Casting and fishing indicator rig requires enough back bone to lift nymph setups. It also doubles as a fantastic lake setup if you decide to take the float tube out on your next fishing adventure.

If you've got any questions about the IMX PRO singlehand rods or any other rod in their series. Give us a call.

    G. Loomis IMX Pro Spey Rod

John gets excited about IMX Pro Spey Rod Series

John Garret - Veteran Guide: Gorge Fly Shop Product Specialist covers the G. Loomis IMX Pro Short Spey and puts it to the test in the video above.

Hey guys this is John from the Gorge Fly Shop and I'm here to chat with you today about the new G Loomis IMX Pro short spey trout rods.

A long time ago I turned a passion into a profession with a long time guiding career and now working at the Gorge Fly Shop all along the way I've been a huge Loomis fan. So I'm really excited about the IMX Pro Series rods, which were designed from the idea of fulfilling the needs of discriminating professional guides.

With today's efficient and versatile modern short head, line systems being a popular and practical solution for many common casting and presentation issues there was a need for a true Spey taper in a trout spey rod. Recognizing this issue Tom Larimer and Steve Rajeff of G. Loomis, joined forces to create a collection of true spey action rods, crafted to meet the performance characteristics of this new breed of fly lines.

The IMX Pro short spey trout rods are ideal for folks who are already into the two-handed game for steelhead, and want to expand their love beyond steelhead fishing. This allows the angler to fish a two handed rod all year long from multiple species. The conduit core technology used in these rods allows for a ridiculously light rod that sacrifices nothing when it comes to durability, line speed, and ease of casting.

The IMX Pro's short trout spey rods are light and in the right spots. Traditionally as the blank diameter increases, so does the total amount of material being used. This was the only way of ensuring strength and durability in the bottom half of the rod until now. Conduit Core technology replaces excess wraps of graphite with a material of similar strength that's lighter in weight. This improves efficiency and reduces fatigue of fishing situations that require the animation of chunky flies, popping, chugging, stack mending, reach casting, and other repetitive motion.

The IMX pro short trout spey rods come in five models from 3 - 7 weight and are 11' 11 inches in length making them perfect for executing short swings and managing tight fishing conditions.

My favorite being the 4wt. 11' 11" for trout. With the progressive flex, fast action, and plenty of power, the IMX Pro short spey rods jack a cast with ease. Built to the demanding specifications of professional fishing guides the IMX Pro Series is comprised of 15 purpose-driven designs to meet the performance demands of  modern fly fishing.

The IMX Pro short spey trout rods deliver series performance at a beautiful price point, making them a perfect tool for today's modern trout fishing needs.

    G. Loomis IMX Pro Fly Rod

John Garrett talks about the new IMX trout series

John Garret - Veteran Guide: Gorge Fly Shop Product Specialist covers the G. Loomis IMX Pro Series and puts it to the test in the video above.

Hey guys this is John from the Gorge Fly Shop and I'm here to talk to you about the new G. Loomis IMX Pro single hand trout fly rods. Many time world champion caster and rod designer Steve Rajeff and Tom Larimer teamed up to create a rod that meets the demands of professional guides that is durable, powerful, and yet affordable without sacrificing quality feel or performance.

From this collaboration the IMX Pro Series was born.

Maybe you're working that tight seam up against the far bank with your favorite nymph setup or maybe you're tossing ridiculous sized streamers at Western trout there is definitely an IMX Pro fly rod (singlehand) for you. For me the IMX Pro is light in all the right spots. This is due to the new G. Loomis Conduit Core Technology. These rods have you covered whether fishing with small flies and delicate long leader presentations or casting big foam stone flies into the wind.

Traditionally as the blank diameter increases so does the total amount of material being used. This was the only way of ensuring durability and strength in the bottom half of the rod, until now.

The Conduit Core technology allows G. Loomis to remove areas of graphite that are not needed while maintaining durability, specifically for each purpose-driven model. This improves positive feel, balance and helps fight fatigue.

    All Single Hand Rods Feature:

    • Single foot chrome guides for weight reduction
    • Fuji stripping guides premium

On models 10' 5 weight and heavier. 6 weight and under have a full wells micro grip. Ten' 7 weight and 7 and 8 weight streamer rods in both four piece and one-piece have a standard full wells grip. This is ideal for large streamers or nymph fishing for Alaska size rainbows, steelhead or fishing in salt water.

All models come with a rod sock and all four piece models come with a cordura rod case for storage.

Greg's Top Picks from IFTD / ICAST 2017

As of this writing I am sitting in Orlando Airport waiting for my flight home. The show week went all to fast as usual. I only have a weekend and a couple of days before I head off on another adventure. I'm going to have to cut this years recap a little brief and limit it to the new stuff that really got my attention.

Sage Salt HD - Winner, "Best New Saltwater Fly Rod" and "Best of Show"

Sage really delivered in a big way with the new Salt HD. Light, fast, powerful but the best feeling from this rod is just how connected you feel to your cast. You never lose contact with your line. I can't tell you what makes that happen but I can tell you the difference is recognizable and real. I will have one as soon as I can get my hands on it!

G.Loomis IMX PRO - Winner , "I-Cast Best New Fly Rod"

I personally award this new rods series as "Best mid priced rod line ever." While I've been informed before the term "ever", should never be used but I think an exception needs to be made in this case in order to drive my point. The IMX PRO performs like a top class rod. Load feel, swing weight, power and speed all precisely match a PRO level caster preferences. This has been accomplished by putting the R&D in the material makeup and refinement of rod tapers. With a technology G Loomis refers to as Conduit Core Loomis is able to reduce material in key ares yet retain strength and efficiency. IMX PRO rods are referred to as guide tools because guides will rate their rods more on performance and less on how much titanium nano resin sauce is dripping from them. Besides standard four piece offerings the series also include two 1-piece streamer rods and a full series of Short Spey (not switch) rods.

RIO Flats Pro - Winner, "Best New Saltwater Fly Line"

Complementing the Salt HD is a new line from RIO called Flats Pro. I'll have to give you more detail later when I have the technology resources in front of me but the big deal about this line is in its ability to lay out in a perfect straight line, without wiggles and connect you directly to your fly. Even with my imperfect casting mechanics this line somehow finds the straight path every time. I've got my sample line and will be doing a full comprehensive review coming soon.

Nautilus GTX - Winner,  "Best New Saltwater Fly Reel"

Nautilus unveiled a new top level Saltwater Fly Reel. Nautilus is taking a different approach of creating the largest "Tarpon" size first and will engineer smaller sizes in the near future. Drawing from all Nautilus technologies and emphasis on reduced weight has come together to form this winning package.

    Waterworks Lamson Cobalt Saltwater Reel

I'm highlighting this reel because this one could have caused an upset in the saltwater category. WWL spent two years in the development of this new reel. While some of it's uniqueness is apparent other features are subtle as trout sipping a caddis. It's light, strong, sealed and precision. I will do a future article on this one soon highlighting all the features.

Scott G Series  - Winner, "Best New Freshwater Fly Rod"

The revised G Series of rods once again advances it's long lived heritage as an incredible spring creek trout rod series. The uniqueness of this series is while light for spring creek use, the action is between moderate and fast with Scott calling it a medium action. Not too slow, not too fast, just right!

Simms G3 Wader - Winner, Best New Men's Wader"

While most are not going to notice the differences between past and future G3 waders they are in fact quite different. Feel, breath-ability and convenience features have all been stepped up to premium levels. Starting with material these new G3's feel much more supple to the touch. Much less rigid then previous models yet Simms Claims them to be more breath-able and more puncture resistant.
Belt, belt loops and pocket design and many other features also have been improved and upgraded. I'm in need of a new pair of waders and the G3's will make for a great test product review.

Korkers Women's Darkhorse - Winner, Best New Women's Wading Boot"

Built from the foundation of the hugely successful men's Darkhorse, the new Women's Darkhorse displays style and fit for a women in a premium wading boot package. You can review the Darkhorse features in an article I did this past spring.

    Korkers Triple Threat Traction Soles

Traction is a huge concern for many anglers. I say without hesitation Korkers has shut the door in the extreme traction category. I'm going to let the picture tell the story and only add one detail that all three configurations are built upon the same sole.

    Korkers Wraptr Wading Boot

The New Korkers Wraptr Boot utilizes a technology were a new highly abrasion reistant material is actually wrapped and molded to form the boot thereby eliminating the key wear component of stitching. Expect to hear more about this new advanced boot soon

    Plan D Fly Boxes

My first Plan D Fly Box has revolutionize the storage of my stinger type flies. Because of this functioning storage system I overlooked its shortcomings of being thicker then necessary and not waterproof. Wait till you see Dylan's new line of boxes. Using the word upgraded doesn't do them enough justice. Slimmer, lighter, solid latching, waterproof and overall better constructed. Adding the line is a new tube fly solution. I acquired a sample of this one and look forward to providing a future review.

Great stuff coming! We'll be busy testing and reviewing every chance we get
