DESCRIPTION

Sometimes the best fly fishing adventures come with a long walk in the woods, spontaneous roadside stops, and a rod that rises to every opportunity. When the backcountry beckons or the open road calls, The TRAILBLAZER sets the standard for durable, lightweight, and compact travel wherever the map leads.

Designed to fit into all your outdoor adventures—whether your rig is packed to the gills with necessary provisions for a cross-country road trip or your backpack can’t stash any more weight. The all-new 6-piece rod is designed with a small footprint and compact tube, ideal for long treks—seriously—it’s the lightest rod we’ve ever built. And a spicy red blank with hints of neon green sets your style and adventures ablaze.

Just In - Redington Butter Stick V3

The BUTTER STICK brings nostalgic design from the days of shag carpet, roller disco, and Hendrix rippin’. And like all things good and vintage, it’s as aesthetically pleasing as it is fun and functional. Whether you’re fishing blue lines for brook trout, slingin’ dries on a tasty tailwater, or chasing bucket mouths at your local bass pond—the BUTTER STICK bend will have you buggin’ out.

Fresh for this season is a brand new Translucent Sunshine Yellow blank which looks as radical as it feels in hand. Our T-glass construction improves overall rod strength and our Heritage Design provides a classic medium action casting stroke—taking you back to a time when living in the moment was everything. We’ve also added new upgrades to the handle, including a Traditional Half Wells for a more comfortable grip, a cork reel seat for (even more) retro styling, and a Threaded Lock Nut to keep your reel exactly where you need it. Now a 4-piece rod for smooth travel and convenient storage.

Redington Predator Fly Rods

My first Redington Predator was a 8710-4. That rod caught a lot of fish. I loaned to my nephew and haven't seen it since. But no big deal because I know it's still catching a lot of fish.

Many anglers today are taking advantage of the advancements the fly fishing industry has offered and are casting flies to species that don't respond to bugs! Bass, Pike, Musky, Big Browns, Tarpon, Snook and whatever else that swims and eats other things that swim including mice, rats, snakes and forage fish.

Predator got some refinements for 2017 and in 2018 Redington added big water Predators in 1291, 1481 and 1681 sizes.
Predator is an ultimate rod for big flies, big lines and big fish. They are fast action, powerful blanks that when line loaded properly provide intuitive feel. Predator rods respond well to lines like RIO InTouch Outbound Short, RIO Tarpon Qucikshooter or RIO Coastal Quickshooter XP.
The all-new PREDATOR is the ultimate fly rod for big flies, heavy lines, and aggressive fighting fish. It features a powerful, intuitive fast action that commands enough power to combat big gamefish and pick up and cast today's heavy lines and massive flies. Its action is designed to perform in both freshwater and saltwater scenarios, and all components are saltwater-ready. The PREDATOR family encompasses models ranging from spooky-bonefish duty 5-weights to tarpon-ready 12-weights, including unique specialty models like a 7'10" 8-weight and dedicated PIKE and MUSKY models with extended fighting butts for boatside figure-eights.

Features -
  • Intuitive fast action
  • Dialed in-hand balance for lightweight feel and responsive casting
  • Anodized machined aluminum reel seat, ideal for all water conditions
  • Laser-etched model reference on reel seat for quick rod identification
  • Section tips epoxy coated to prevent sticking
  • Includes species-specific PIKE and MUSKY models
  • Aluminum oxide stripping guides with ceramic inserts and hard wire anodized snake guides for durability
  • Alignment dots for easy rod setup
  • Durable cordura rod tube with built in rod dividers
  • Lifetime warranty
  • New 12, 14, and 16-weight models for 2018

New Rods from Redington - "Hydrogen" and "Chromer"

Redington Hydrogen

Redington, maker of performance fly rods, reels, waders, apparel and accessories for fly fishing, introduces two fly rod families for 2016 – the Hydrogen and the Chromer. The Hydrogen meets trout angling needs while the Chromer is the ultimate tool for the two-handed angler.

“We’ve fine-tuned our medium-fast action and used the lightest weight components available in the design of the Hydrogen to give anglers incredible performance for trout angling,” says Redington rod designer Paul Richardson. “The Chromer has a suite of refined, premium actions to suit a variety of casting styles, and anglers will dig the running line polymer grip sections on the handles.”

The Hydrogen is the lightest trout rod in its class. It features single-foot guides for increased tip recovery and a skeletonized, CNC machined, anodized aluminium reel seat to assist in weight reduction. The smooth, medium-fast action blank has a matte grey finish for minimizing flash and all handles are half-wells using high grade, premium cork. Eight models accommodate all trout fishing scenarios and three nymph models complete the family and have a softer tip for easier turnover of heavy nymphs and parallel lines. All Hydrogen rods come in a slimline cordura rod tube with dividers and a lifetime warranty. The Hydrogen series will be available August 2016 for a retail price of $299.95.

Redington Chromer
The Chromer features a smooth, fast-action blank in matte black and an anodized aluminium, down locking reel seat for improved in-hand balance. The premium cork handle has polymer pinch grips on both the top and bottom to allow easy running line management during spey casts and added comfort during long days on the water.

With three switch and five spey models, two-handed anglers can find a size for any steelhead or salmon fishing scenario. The Chromer will come in a cordura rod tube with dividers and a lifetime warranty. This series will be available August 2016 and will retail for $399.95.

Review: Redington Dually 7130-4 13’ 7wt Spey Rod

Pictured is the eye appealing Redington Dually Spey Rod. Its light in hand, attractive to the eye and it won’t break the bank to get one. At only $249.95 it is worth a serious consideration if you want to get into a Spey or Switch rod, or need a backup rod!
According to: Redington, in their words: Our new collections of switch and Spey rods are built on high-end performance and sweet style at less than half the cost of the competition. Half the cost! The Dually at $249 offers an array of modern cosmetics, with a traditional cork handle and reel seat, and a burgundy matte finish. This thing casts and flows tips like fine wine. Two hands are better than one.

My take: I recently had the pleasure of taking the Redington Dually 7130-4, 13’ 7wt Spey Rod out for a ride. Let me start out by saying that in this day and age of high tech and high dollar Switch and Spey rods it was refreshing to use a rod that I would easily and eagerly recommend to someone who is looking for a bargain or is on a tight budget and yet would still enjoy fishing with it.

The Redington Dually is a perfect example. When it comes to a great deal, in my mind Redington’s new Dually, at the M.S.R.P. of $249.95 would be a go to rod and the added bonus of a Lifetime Warranty doesn’t hurt its cause either. This is the perfect entry level rod that’s easy on the eyes and easy on the pocket book. I also think that it would make a perfect back up rod for someone who may need one in a pinch. I found it very smooth and very easy to cast, and yet had lots of power. It’s an easy rod to fall in love with and I believe it’s a better rod than the $249.95 price tag suggest. In other words, for your money, all things considered, at this price you can’t go wrong!

Redington Prospector 4 Weight Switch Rod Review

Prospector 10'9" 4 weight switch
The Prospector series is Redington’s contribution to the value-priced switch rod arena. At $399.00 these rods come in far below many other fly rods, both single hand and switch. For many anglers, taking the plunge into Switch Rods is not that easy a thing. I for one, have limited switch experience when it comes to trout fishing. Many of the waters I enjoy fishing – creeks and small streams – don’t really call for such a tool. Furthermore, single hand rods have that level of intimacy that I really enjoy. So, it’s no wonder that I rarely use one for trout fishing. However, I recently got a Redington Prospector 4109-4 Switch Rod to test out on the local waters and I want to tell you how it went.
