Winston Fly Rod Special Buy

Immediate attention...

Hard to believe I'm making this announcement. R.L.Winston Fly Rod Company has decided to end production of the Boron IIIx and Boron III LS fly rod series. But the good news is I wouldn't be making this announcement if there wasn't already a successor in place. More on that below.

But first the Sale

Gorge Fly Shop has loaded up on the soon to be "legends of the past" fly rods for you to get one last chance to own one. The Boron III Fly Rods not only carried the tradition of Winston Feel but is also in fact responsible for the very definition of load, power and speed coming together to create one of the most graceful rods one could cast.

Boron IIIx rods had that great ability to take your casting skill to next level no matter what level you started from. Novice casters could feel the load, intermediate casters could excel quicker and professional casters could extract all the soul from tip to Boron butt section. In my opinion they really did define the Winston feel.

Boron III LS Fly Rods provided that same Winston Feel on a small stream, spring creek level. Designed for precise and delicate presentations and built with all the premium grade components and features as it's big bother.

While supplies last we have most sizes in stock of both models for deeply discounted prices. These are first quality rods exactly the way they've been built all along. Rods include logo rod sock and premium graphite tube as well as the Winston Unconditional Lifetime Guarantee.

So What's New:

Two all new rod series are in production over in Twin Bridges, Montana. The Winston Pure and the Winston Air Saltwater.

Starting with Winston Pure

It's so hard to put words into describing this new rod. I think the best definition of the Pure is a rod with True Winston Progressive Action that just feels magical in hand.
I could go on and on with words to describe but it just won't become reality until you witness Pure in hand for yourself.
Small stream, dry fly with moderate action for open loop presentations without ever feeling under powered is what this rod is about. Take your passion of delicate fishing to a new level with Pure.

Winston Saltwater Air

Starting with a little history, the Winston Freshwater Air came into play a couple years with the use of SuperSilica Nano Resin Technology. Lighter and faster while yet still progressive and smooth, the Freshwater Air is a lively and responsive fly rod series.
Building on the SuperSilica Technology Winston introduces Saltwater Air. Just like the Winston Pure, it's practically impossible to put into words to describe this new rods series. I can tell you that when I stepped to the pond to test these rods I could not have imagined how light and lively could translate into such smooth power. The New Saltwater Air is unlike any Saltwater rod you know of and certainly unlike any Winston saltwater rod from the past. Saltwater Air is a clear leap forward for both the Winston brand as well as the fishing industry.

Within inner circles much concern was discussed about the exit of the Boron IIIx series and what would replace this smooth power rod. The new Pure and Freshwater air really ride on the delicate trout side of fishing and with the next category of rod to be a Saltwater Air series, what would play that middle ground of streamer, indicator, light saltwater or all around fast action fly rods series.

That question was put to rest after experiencing the smaller models of Saltwater Air. The streamer Junkies, myself included, have already set our sights on the 6 and 7 weight models as our next love affair rod series. These lightweight power rods have all the horsepower while the key attraction being so incredibly light feeling. A very important feature when an angler is looking at hundreds or possible thousand casts per day.

The future of Winston can be described much the same as their new rods series; Powerful, Smooth and loaded with Winston Feel.

News Release - New Sage Salt HD

New for 2018 - Sage Salt HD
While it seems to me that Sage builds its legacy on rods such as the ONE or X, it's the Sage Saltwater series of rods that really get my attention. There is something about those fast action powerful rods that ignite my adrenaline.

Continuing onward into the Konnetic HD platform found in the Sage X Series, the New Salt HD promises to deliver more pulling and lifting power.

I'll have my hands on this new rod next week at the IFTD / I-CAST event. I can't wait to give it a test drive.

Here is what the Sage Media Release says about the New Sage Salt HD
Building on the success of the X using KonneticHD technology, renowned fly rod manufacturer Sage introduces the SALT HD. Offering more pulling authority and increased line lifting power than standard fast action rods, the SALT HD will ensure anglers can tame any saltwater species.
“Opportunities to catch saltwater species range dramatically from spooky bonefish on the flats to heart-pounding GT runs, so we created a rod that performs in all scenarios,” said Jerry Siem, Sage chief rod designer. “With that in mind, each rod in this family was designed specifically for a purpose - allowing for quick shots and even quicker second shots yet having the pulling power and ability to perform delicate presentations when needed.”

These Made in the USA rods, feature KonneticHD Technology for ultralight, strong, and slim blanks to help reduce fatigue and slice through the wind. The oversized hard chromed snake guides and tip-top ensure large saltwater knots slide smoothly, and the heavy-duty anodized aluminum reel seat is uplocking to ensure stability. Combined with a full-wells cork handle and a laser etched line weight on the slide band, these rods are ready to rock-and-roll when the fish of a lifetime swims by.
Available in 6 -16 weights, each individual model is purpose-built for a specific saltwater application. The Squid Ink blank color pairs perfectly with Black thread wraps and Blue trim wraps. True to all premium Sage rods, the SALT HD comes with a custom rod bag, powder coated aluminum rod tube, and a lifetime warranty. MSRP: $950.
