Many anglers are opting to build their own fly rods these days. It's a challenging and rewarding hobby. I've built a couple fly rods and I can tell you that you don't do it to save money. You'll likely end up spending as much as same rod in the factory built version. Keep in mind when buying blanks you don't get a rod tube. Also while most brands like Sage or Winston will still honor warranty on their rod blanks that does not include rebuilding and the necessary components required to rebuild. For example if you break the butt section you will have to buy all new cork and maybe even reel seat. It's a hobby of pure passion.

When opportunity happens we will buy new fly rod blanks from Sage if we can score a deal on them. These would be discontinued models of course.
